However, since I’ve only had experience with the former, we’re going to do a Stronglifts 5×5 review in this post. Both programs are very similar in terms of exercise type and intensity and if your goal is simply to get stronger, you can’t go wrong with either. In the realm of strength training programs for beginners, there are two widely known programs out there: Stronglifts 5×5 by Mehdi and Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe (make sure to read his starting strength book, it’s a must-have for anyone starting out in strength training).
